Biographical

Bio

I live in Northwestern Washington where the trees and the mists are inspiration for piping.

I started my training with Jori Chisholm of Seattle Washington while he was with the SFU Pipe Band.  After 2 1/2 years, I developed severe hand pain and had to give up the pipes for 10 years.  Hands finally healed up to the extent that I could try again and I've been learning from Dr. Tom McCurdy of Port Angeles, Washington.  I have been piping for almost 7 years.

Dr. McCurdy has been piping for the veterans associations in the area for years so I started in.  We march in every parade on the Olympic Peninsula and the Queen's birthday observed in Victoria.  We're just two guys with bagpipes and no drummers.  This might be the hardest configuration in parades because I cannot hear him well and we have no firm beat but our peripheral vision and brain.

Right now we are in the midst of the pandemic.  I've challenged myself to play every day at noon as I walk around the block by my house.  I stop for people who stop to watch me and then I move on.  Well the word's gotten out and now I am The Parking Lot Piper of Port Angeles, Washington.  I intend on sharing my music until the pandemic is over, every day at noon.  The response has been overwhelming and I get as much out of it as my listeners.  I pipe every day and I keep our band medley crisp.  And I get some exercise.  And I am bolstering the esprit de corps.  Playing through tragedy is a grand piping tradition.  It is an honor to be here at this time with the ability to play for my local town.
