    Category: Commandment 4: Reject Multitasking

For trivial and mundane activities (like eating a sandwich while driving to work or something), multitasking may seem to make sense. Of course you can do more than one thing at a time! Right?

Maybe. But - if you’re going to get serious about learning something as involved as the bagpipes, you’re going to learn that, in this context, attempting to multitask will result in absence of progress.

Rejection of multitasking can be as obvious as turning your phone to airplane mode during your practice sessions, or as nuanced as integrating just one type of embellishment at a time into your new tune, or learning one bar at a time instead of struggling with a whole part.

Whichever way you look at it though, embracing a one thing at a time mentality is essential for anyone to see great progress with their piping.
